We had an absolute blast at all the events hosted by the New Zealand Home Brewer’s Conference in beautiful Nelson. Not even the rain could dampen peoples spirits as the craft beer flowed heartily from the taps during BrewMania, Marchfest and the finale of Conference Day.
BrewMania proved a hit. Talented homebrewers from around the country and afar joined together to show off their brews to a panel of experienced judges, hoping to be the winner of the BrewMania title. We were more than willing to ‘assist’ with the judging of the samples where we were treated to a plethora of brews that all the brewers involved should be very proud of. We also had a great time handing out spot prizes, making everyone a winner on the night.
Big congratulations to Jamie McQuillan - the winner of “Best Brewer” taking away a new Grainfather Connect and commercial brew days with 8 Wired Brewing, Choice Bros Brewing and Hop Federation. While Leo O’Shea grabbed both second and third place in the singles competition taking away a Refractometer and Growler.
Marchfest celebrated its 10th Anniversary with thousands flocking to Founders Park which meant plenty of numbers at the Brew Zone where we previewed our upcoming Conical Fermenter and Glycol Chiller to the masses for the first time. Feedback was incredible and we are stoked with the positive response we have received for these products – we can’t wait to launch them! Not too far away now.
The ‘Brew Zone’ at Marchfest was jam packed with plenty of experienced home brewers and interested craft beer fans alike coming to check it out. We had the talent and wisdom of Gordon Strong, Marshall Schott and Michael Tonsmeire on display during the ‘brew off’! The guys got stuck in and had a laugh, each brewing their own specialty on a Grainfather. It was crazy, it was fun and they all enjoyed using the Grainfather.
The final day provided all the knowledge and insight you could ever want as a home brewer from an amazing line up of talented and experienced home brewers that have made the jump to larger commercial breweries as well as an excess of industry legends.
With informative discussions ranging from brewing a killer IPA through to building great recipes with specialty malts. Everyone came away with something to improve their next brew day.
We had a weekend with plenty of highlights and are ready to do it all again next year.
We are proud to be a gold sponsor of this event and for ‘making the jump from okay-to-awesome’ as a home brewer it is a great event that should not be missed.
